  • Brisbane - Soderling, Roddick closing in on final

    1/7/11 8:36 PM | Kelli DeMario
Brisbane - Soderling, Roddick closing in on final Top seed Robin Soderling looks to make his first Brisbane International final, as he takes on former title winner Radek Stepanek on Saturday. Defending champion Andy Roddick is also in semifinal action, set to face Kevin Anderson.

    (1) Robin Soderling vs. Radek Stepanek

World No. 5 Robin Soderling leads semifinal opponent Radek Stepanek 4-2 in the head-to-head series. The players last clashed at the 2009 Brisbane International, where the Czech rallied to a three-set quarterfinal victory.

Soderling has competed well at the tournament, having held 29 consecutive service games through three rounds of play. The 26-year-old looks for his fourth straight-set win after downing Ryan Harrison, Michael Berrer and Matthew Ebden earlier this week.

World No. 62 Stepanek made the final four after scoring a 6-3, 6-3 victory over 7th seed Florian Mayer of Germany. The 32-year-old Czech remains on track to reach his third consecutive Brisbane International final.

Prediction: Soderling in two competitive sets.

    (2) Andy Roddick vs. Kevin Anderson

Defending champion Andy Roddick is through to the Brisbane International semifinal by virtue of his 6-2, 6-3 win over 5th seed Marcos Baghdatis. The 28-year-old American has showcased his trademark serve all week long, having tallied 27 aces through three completed matches.

World No. 61 Kevin Anderson booked his first Brisbane International semi after rallying to defeat Santiago Giraldo, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. The 24-year-old South African, who took out 6th seed Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16, will attempt to reach his first tour-level final.

    Prediction: Roddick in straight sets.

Does anybody know if RS can take back #4 with a win tomorrow?

@ numero,
If Hopman Cup doesn't have any points to be added and Soderling wins tomorrow, he will pass Murray. He will add 250 points as he lost last year in Chennai's 1st rnd.
