A potential World Tour Finals preview is on Friday's Paris menu as Andy Roddick faces Robin Soderling. The two London qualifiers are battling for a place in the semis.
Andy Roddick and Robin Soderling will be squaring off for the fifth time in their careers and third time this season when they meet in the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Masters on Friday.
The head-to-head series is tied up at two apiece, but Roddick has won both of their 2010 encounters. He prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in the semis of the Sony Ericsson Open before a thrilling 6-4, 6-7(7), 7-6(5) triumph in the third round of the Cincinnati Masters. Soderling took their only indoor meeting 7-6(5), 7-6(5) two years ago in Lyon.
Both players have been in fine form throughout 2010 and they are bound for the World Tour Finals in London. Roddick clinched his spot in the elite field by following up his second-round Paris victory over Jarkko Nieminen with a straight-set win over Ernests Gulbis. The eighth-ranked American is a stellar 48-14 for the year.
Soderling booked his place in London prior to this week, mainly thanks to a runner-up finish at the French Open and quarterfinal showings at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. The fifth-ranked Swede is 53-20 for his 2010 campaign. He opened this week with a rout of Gilles Simon and followed that up by easing past Stanislas Wawrinka.
Although Soderling has always been an indoor-court force, the surface is playing extremely fast this week and Roddick's serve is clicking. If the No. 8 seed continues to serve well, he should be in line for another three-set victory.

solid match from söderling. and out-acing roddick again.
except for his serve, roddick's game is so utterly defensive.
