Michael Llodra will begin host nation France’s semifinal tie with Argentina, as he squares off against Argentina’s Juan Monaco. The players are set to contest their fourth hard-court meeting on Friday.
World No. 30 Michael Llodra will be looking to level the head-to-head series with opponent Juan Monaco Friday afternoon. The pair last met this year at the Australian Open, where a second-round battle went to the Argentine in five sets. The Frenchman recorded his lone win at the 2009 event in Lyon.
The 30-year-old Frenchman enters into Davis Cup competition having reached a career-high World No. 30. Llodra has two titles in hand this season, with championship wins earned in Marseilles and Eastbourne. The Paris native makes his return to play after a third-round finish to Tommy Robredo at the US Open.
World No. 33 Juan Monaco has struggled with a wrist injury for a large portion of the season. The 26-year-old Argentine is a modest 23-15 for the 2010 season. Monaco will attempt to secure his first win since May, when he won two contests at the World Team Championship.
Prediction: Neither player appears to be completely fit prior to the match. Odds favor Llodra, who excels when placed in front of a home crowd. The Frenchman in four sets.
