Philipp Kohlschreiber is set to kick off his 2010 US Open campaign Wednesday afternoon with a first-round clash against compatriot Tobias Kamke. The seed is joined in action by Gilles Simon, who faces Donald Young.
(29) Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. Tobias Kamke
Twenty-ninth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber makes his return to competition following a round of 16 finish in Cincinnati. The 26-year-old German had his run at the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters cut short, as a right shoulder issue forced him to withdraw. Kohlschreiber, ranked World No. 31, is bidding for his 30th victory of the season.
World No. 89 Tobias Kamke heads into the 2010 US Open with a 3-3 season record. The 24-year-old German looks to rebound after an unsuccessful attempt to qualify in New Haven. Kamke is slated to make his first main draw appearance at the Open on Wednesday.
Gilles Simon vs. Donald Young
World No. 42 Gilles Simon holds a 2-0 series edge over World No. 100 Donald Young entering into their opening-round battle. The Frenchman recorded two victories in 2008, which includes a straight-set, first round success at the Masters Canada.
Simon is set to continue his comeback after suffering a serious knee injury. The Frenchman will attempt to rebound following back-to-back, first-round losses in Toronto (lost to Youzhny) and Cincinnati (lost to Fish). The 25-year-old is a modest 7-11 for the year.
Young makes his return to play after reaching the second round in New Haven. The 21-year-old American remains in search of his first US Open victory since 2007.
