Andy Roddick will take to Arthur Ashe Stadium to start his 2010 US Open campaign on the opening day of play.
American Andy Roddick dropped out of the top 10 earlier this summer, marking the first time ever an American has not been in that elite list. Roddick is back at No. 9 however, on the strength of a run to the semifinals in Cincinnati, where he lost to Mardy Fish.
Roddick’s first round opponent is France’s Stephane Robert. The Frenchman is ranked 78 in the world. His best result from2010 was a run to the finals in Johannesburg in February. Since then, Robert has had a series of disappointing losses, including a first round exit to Donald Young last week in New Haven.
Roddick should have no difficulty getting through this match. The American had a shaky start to the North American hard court swing, which later turned out to be a mild bout of glandular fever. After a third round loss in Washington and withdrawing from Toronto, Roddick played well in Cincinnati and appears to be healthy once again.
