Tournament seeds Marin Cilic and Mardy Fish will begin their 2010 Legg Mason Tennis Classic campaigns on Tuesday. The players are in action against respective opponents Denis Istomin and Viktor Troicki.
(4) Marin Cilic vs. Denis Istomin
Fourth seed Marin Cilic will be looking to score his third career win over second-round opponent Denis Istomin Tuesday afternoon. The World No. 13 holds a 2-0 edge in the head-to-head, having earned both victories on hard-court in 2009.
Cilic makes his return to ATP World Tour competition following a first-round exit at Wimbledon in late June. The Croat has built a 31-12 season record, bolstered by title-winning runs in Chennai and Zagreb. The 21-year-old, competing in his second Legg Mason Tennis Classic, will attempt to secure his first win in Washington.
World No. 54 Denis Istomin commenced the tournament with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(5), first-round victory over Leonardo Mayer. The 23-year-old, entered into his second Washington event, is 21-16 for the 2010 season.
Prediction: Cilic in three sets.
(15) Mardy Fish vs. Viktor Troicki
Fifteenth seed Mardy Fish heads into the Legg Mason Tennis Classic with momentum, having pocketed back-to-back titles in Newport and Atlanta. The 28-year-old, ranked World No. 35, has compiled a 28-11 mark this season. The American is twice a quarter-finalist at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic, having earned final eight berths in 2003 and 2006.
World No. 50 Viktor Troicki recorded his 20th Tour-level victory after taking out veteran qualifier Kevin Kim on Monday, 6-1, 6-2. The 24-year-old has struggled as of late, unable to win consecutive matches since the French Open. The 2008 Washington finalist (lost to Del Potro) is contesting his third Legg Mason Tennis Classic.
Prediction: Fish in straight sets.

Yes congrats to Cilic for the win. At least he avoided being knocked out after his first match in a tournament. Come on Cilic, please go far in this tournament.

I hope Cilic can score a win over Istomin. Please Cilic, no more 1st/2nd round exit. Its time to do well, esp now the hard court season has begun. Istomin has big serves but he is a bit inconsistent, though Cilic himself is not much better.
