Fourth seed Nicolas Almagro is scheduled square off against two-time Swedish Open champion Tommy Robredo on Saturday. The fellow Spaniards will be looking to earn safe passage into the Bastad final.
Nicolas Almagro holds a 1-0 series edge over compatriot Tommy Robredo, having captured their only previous meeting at the 2007 event in Hamburg. Almagro rallied to secure a three-set victory on clay, 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-4.
The 24-year-old commenced his 2010 Swedish Open bid with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jarkko Nieminen. Almagro struggled early during his quarterfinal clash with qualifier Franco Skugor, but rallied to win in three, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0. The Spaniard, ranked World No. 20, enters into the semifinal with a 31-17 season record.
Almagro is set to make his first ATP World Tour semifinal appearance since May, when he finished among the final four in Madrid (lost to Nadal). With a victory on Saturday, the Murcia native books his first championship final since February 2009, when he put together a title-winning run in Acapulco.
World No. 36 Tommy Robredo made his seventh Bastad semifinal after ousting second-seeded countryman Fernando Verdasco on Friday. The two-time champion survived a difficult opening-round test against Andrey Golubev, but rallied to a win in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
The 28-year-old is slated to make his first ATP World Tour semifinal showing of the season on Saturday. Robredo will be looking for his first championship final since early 2009, when he sealed a successful run to the Buenos Aires crown.

Robredo is having a bad day ... no luck at all; I think he has now lost 8 games in a row.
