Tournament seeds Tommy Robredo and Paul-Henri Mathieu will be in opening-round action at the Swedish Open Tuesday afternoon. The players are set to battle respective opponents Michal Przysiezny and Pablo Cuevas.
(5) Tommy Robredo vs. Michal Przysiezny
Fifth seed Tommy Robredo looks to record his second victory over opponent Michal Przysiezny on Tuesday. The pair last met in 2008 on clay in Warsaw, where a round of 32 clash went to the Spaniard in straight sets.
The World No. 36 enters into the Swedish Open with a 9-12 record, returning to action after a first-round loss to Peter Luczak at Wimbledon. The 28-year-old has struggled since early spring, unable to record a match-win since Monte Carlo. Robredo, twice a Swedish Open champion, is competing in his 10th Bastad event.
World No. 89 Michal Przysiezny has built a 1-6 Tour-level mark in 2010. The 26-year-old aims to secure his first Swedish Open victory since his 2007 tournament debut.
(6) Paul-Henri Mathieu vs. Pablo Cuevas
Sixth seed Paul-Henri Mathieu holds a 1-0 series edge against Pablo Cuevas heading into their opening-round battle. The Frenchman won their only previous meeting at the 2009 tournament in Hamburg, where he rallied to a semifinal win in three sets.
Mathieu, ranked World No. 51, is 5-10 for the season. The 28-year-old has endured a difficult year, having lost in the first round of six of 9 tournaments. Tuesday signals the Frenchman’s first showing at the Swedish Open.
World No. 64 Pablo Cuevas will attempt to pocket his first main draw victory since May, when he booked a quarterfinal berth in Estoril. The 24-year-old, playing in his Swedish Open debut, has compiled a 10-13 record in 2010.
