Santiago Giraldo and Olivier Rochus will be in round of 16 action at the Campbell’s Hall of Fame Championships on Wednesday. The players are set to take on respective opponents Richard Bloomfield and Sergei Bubka.

Second seed Santiago Giraldo began his Newport debut with a hard-fought win over qualifier Alexander Peya. Following three losses of serve in the second set, Giraldo held on to close the three-set match in two hours and 3 minutes. The 22-year-old, having successfully rebounded after a first-round exit at Wimbledon, heads into the round of 16 with a 15-12 season record.
World No. 552 Richard Bloomfield won his first ATP World Tour-level match of the year Tuesday afternoon. The 27-year-old crushed 19 aces en route to a 7-6(1), 6-3 victory over Christophe Rochus.
(4) Olivier Rochus vs. (Q) Sergei Bubka
Fourth seed Olivier Rochus turned in a strong showing on Monday, after suffering back-to-back first-round exits in Halle and Wimbledon. The 29-year-old Belgian, who made the 2009 Newport final four, commenced the event with a 7-6(2), 6-4 win over Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Rochus is bidding for his 10th ATP World Tour victory of the year.
World No. 335 Sergei Bubka recorded his first Tour-level success of the season Tuesday afternoon, as he downed Chris Guccione in straight sets. The 23-year-old is competing in his debut Campbell’s Hall of Fame Championships.
