  • Murray battles Simon for berth in round of 16

    6/26/10 4:37 AM | Kelli DeMario
Murray battles Simon for berth in round of 16 World No. 4 Andy Murray will close action on Centre Court Saturday evening, as he faces Gilles Simon for a place in the fourth round. The players are set to contest their fifth career meeting.

Andy Murray holds a 3-1 lead in the head-to-head series with Gilles Simon entering into their third-round clash at Wimbledon. The 4th seed has recorded three consecutive victories over the 26th seed, although the two have not met since 2008. Saturday’s match signals the pair’s first contest on grass.

The World No. 4 has enjoyed a return to form at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, having downed both Jan Hajek and Jarkko Nieminen in straight sets. The 23-year-old Scot, bidding for his four straight berth in the Wimbledon round of 16, will be looking to post his 20th win of the 2010 season.

World No. 32 Gilles Simon aims to continue his comeback after sustaining a serious knee injury. The 25-year-old Frenchman extended his season mark to 4-5, following successes against Guillermo Alcaide and Illya Marchenko (walkover). The 26th seed remains on course to book his second consecutive Wimbledon round of 16 berth.

    Prediction: Murray in straight sets.

smr: not quiet at end when there was a big shout of joy, but I understand where you're coming from. Peaceful here isn't it?

i think that only soderling stands on his way to the SF, but given andy's defensive ability he should be able to manhandle him.

Good call, Kelli. And LOL, smr. Murray serving carbohydrates even, in the first set (even though Gilles is just really back), while all this brouhaha and drama surround Roger and Rafa.

I'm starting to get quietly concerned for my favorites.
