  • Federer looks toward Wimbledon round of 16

    6/25/10 5:17 AM | Kelli DeMario
Federer looks toward Wimbledon round of 16 Defending champion Roger Federer is scheduled to headline play on Friday, remaining on course to book a round of 16 berth at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The World No. 2 will be meeting veteran Arnaud Clement in round three.

Roger Federer looks to keep his bid for a 17th Grand Slam title alive Friday afternoon, as he squares off against third-round opponent Arnaud Clement. The players have met 10 times previously, with the Swiss holding a 7-3 edge in the head-to-head series. Federer is 2-0 in matches contested on grass.

The World No. 2 has fought through two difficult rounds this week, as he needed five sets to outlast first-round opponent Alejandro Falla and four to down hard-serving qualifier Ilija Bozoljac in round two. Federer continues to call upon his serve, having tallied 37 aces through two rounds of competition. The 28-year-old Swiss aims for his 30th win of the season on Friday.

World No. 86 Arnaud Clement began his 14th Wimbledon with a four-set success against Janko Tipsarevic. The 32-year-old Frenchman rallied to knock out Peter Luczak in the second round, 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. Clement has made the Wimbledon round of 16 three times since his 1997 debut.

    Prediction: Federer in straight sets.

My take is 3 easy sets for Fed this time.

clement has always troubled federer....he might lose a set here!!

vrael , 6/25/10 9:31 AM

It could be another 5 set battle!!

Considering the roger current form it is very much possible... dont know how much enery in roger will left if somehow he makes the way to final!!

It has been crazy to make any prediction about roger's match outcome, anything could happen in the end... The guy can loss the match after having match points and he could also win the match after his opponent serving for the match with multiple match points .... thats crazy !!

mani4Tennis,

well said , but looking at Federer's last match we can belive that this should be over in atmost 4 because played last match very well (Specially he is getting his serve back on track).
