Murray meets Nieminen for third round berth World No. 4 Andy Murray will be in action on Thursday, set to take on second-round opponent Jarkko Nieminen. The players are slated to contest their third career meeting.

Fourth seed Andy Murray looks to continue his progress at Wimbledon, ready to face veteran Jarkko Nieminen for a place in the third round. The Scot holds a 2-0 advantage in the head-to-head series, although the pair have not met since 2007. Thursday’s clash signals their first encounter on grass.

Murray began his bid for a maiden Grand Slam title with a 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 opening-round success over Jan Hajek. The 23-year-old served well, having struck 17 aces with the loss of only a single service game. With a victory on Thursday, Murray records his 16th win at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

World No. 67 Jarkko Nieminen kicked off his 2010 Wimbledon campaign with a hard-fought win over veteran Stefan Koubek. The 28-year-old converted five of 10 service breaks to outlast the Austrian in four sets, 6-4, 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-2.

Nieminen turned in his best Wimbledon showing in 2006, when he advanced to the quarterfinal.

    Prediction: Murray in straight sets.

Stay on top of your serve, muzz, and take it in three.

And mind your language.

Crikey alex, Elizabeth R spends her time at horse races, she can probably teach our Andy a thing or two!

hi deuce - LOL!

Will Murray be nervous when the Queen is watching? Murray is slowly getting into form, I think he should not have any problem with Nieminen. I expect him to face off with Tsonga in the QF and Rafa in the semi. Tsonga vs Murray will be interesting, as I want to see how Murray deal with the big hitters over five sets. I know he can deal with them in best of three sets, he did beat Delpo many times. Murray did beat Delpo at the USO in the past but that was before Delpo become what he is now; and he beats Cilic too at this year's AO, if Cilic can be considered a big hitter, though Cilic was running on fume then.

have seen Nieminen play some good matches.....he might test andy in a set or two...but it must be a straight sets victory for andy in all probability!!!

"I like playing on big courts. I was close to beating Roddick on the centre court at Roland Garros and I had two sets to love against Henman here."

nieminen...ever so confident

i dont think its going to be an easy one for andy, jarko is aggressive and he can do some damage....i wont be surprised if jarko wins a set but murray in 3 is the safest pick perhaps.

Ahhh ... both so cute with their little bows to the Queen.

AndyM 3-0 woshu!

He needs the Queen to attend all tournaments he'll play in the future just to get inspired haha.

excellent win for murray. You know, ricky's prediction of murray reaching the final might be true :p In other results, tsonga outlasted Dolgopolov in 5 sets. I think that only a Tsonga at 100% is capable of stopping murray reaching the semis. And soderling is crushing granollers.

tj600 , 6/24/10 5:15 PM

tj, Sod crushed Granollers in the second set, beating him 7-5, 6-4 to me is not crushing; beating Ginepri 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 is crushing no doubt. After seeing so many big servers, big hitters doing well this Wimbledon, its no surprise that Sod is working his way quite comfortably through the draw.

Murray is not really tested yet. He had not even faced a big hitter, big server yet. Nieminen had not even serve an ace the whole match and he had no weapons to hurt Murray. We'll see how he handles Querry and then Tsonga (if he meets them). Anyway, Murray is playing well and serving well, though he makes more errors in this match than in his previous.
