  • Murray makes 2010 Wimbledon debut against Hajek

    6/22/10 6:50 AM | Kelli DeMario
Murray makes 2010 Wimbledon debut against Hajek World No. 4 Andy Murray is slated to highlight first-round play at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Tuesday, as he faces Jan Hajek. The players are contesting their maiden career meeting for a place in the second round.

Fourth seed Andy Murray will commence his 2010 Wimbledon bid Tuesday afternoon, looking for his 18th victory of the season. The Scot makes his return to competition after suffering a round of 16 loss to American Mardy Fish at Queen’s Club. The 23-year-old has struggled during 2010, unable to book a semifinal berth in any event since his run to the Australian Open final (lost to Federer).

Murray must defend semifinal points for this tournament, having reached the final four in 2009. The 23-year-old recorded his best results at Wimbledon last year, but fell short during his four-set battle with three-time finalist Andy Roddick. Murray, who reached a career-high World No. 2 in August 2008, has advanced to at least the third round or better in four previous attempts.

World No. 90 Jan Hajek begins the event with an 8-13 record in 2010. The 26-year-old is bidding for his first ATP World Tour main draw success since May, when he captured two wins for the Czech Republic during World Team Championship play in Dusseldorf.

Hajek has yet to record a victory at Wimbledon, having lost his only prior match to former World No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero in 2007.

    Prediction: Murray in straight sets.

Murray looks TERRIBLE so far. Yikes.

He forgot to ask for a wake up call before the match. Luckily he is awake now.

AndyM won easily 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 pretty solid performance. Finishes the match with 17 aces, solid serving.

cheryl: Andy always seems to start slowly and since his form has been so off, obviously he was tight. Also, for half an hour Hajek did not play like someone who has only won one match on grass.

Great start muzz. Now see how far you can go without dropping a set ! Here's hoping, deuce:)
