Tipsarevic, Malisse aim for 's-Hertogenbosch semis Janko Tipsarevic and Xavier Malisse will be in quarterfinal action on Thursday in 's-Hertogenbosch. They are taking on Peter Luczak and Alejandro Falla, respectively.

    (7) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Peter Luczak

Tipsarevic and Luczak will be going head-to-head at the ATP level for the first time in their careers when they do battle in the quarterfinals of the UNICEF Open on Thursday. They have faced each other twice on the Challenger circuit, but both of those came six years ago on clay (both also came in finals, which the two competitors split).

The edge now has to go to Tipsarevic, who is ranked No. 51 in the world and boasts two fourth-round appearances at Wimbledon on his resume. He booked his spot in the quarterfinals with wins over Jeremy Chardy and Arnaud Clement. Luczak, registering at 88th in the world, is coming off an impressive straight-set scalp of No. 2 seed Marcos Baghdatis. Another upset is not out of the question for the Australian, but Tipsarevic should advance.

    Alejandro Falla vs. Xavier Malisse

Falla also played a part in the mass of early-round upsets in 's-Hertogenbosch. The 65th-ranked Colombian dismissed Ivan Ljubicic on Tuesday after cruising past Florent Serra in round one. Malisse, who beat Novak Djokovic last week at Queen's Club, has taken out Rajeev Ram and Daniel Brands.

The lone grass-court encounter between these two veterans came almost exactly a year ago during Queen's qualifying, with Malisse prevailing 6-1, 6-2. The Belgian also won their only previous ATP match (2007 Delray Beach), although Falla beat Malisse in a hard-court Challenger clash last season. Grass courts should give Malisse an advantage, so look for him to emerge victorious in three.
