Fellow Spaniards Nicolas Almagro and Feliciano Lopez are set to begin their campaigns at the 2010 AEGON International on Tuesday. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will take on respective opponents James Ward and Lukasz Kubot.
(1) Nicolas Almagro vs. Lukasz Kubot
World No. 18 Nicolas Almagro holds a 1-0 edge over Lukasz Kubot heading into their first-round clash late Tuesday afternoon. The top seed won the pair’s only previous meeting at the 2010 Masters Rome, where he rallied to record a three-set victory. The 24-year-old has compiled a 28-14 record this season, aided by a run of solid play during the European clay-court swing. Almagro is making his second appearance at the event, aiming to improve after suffering a first-round loss in 2006.
World No. 53 Lukasz Kubot enters into his maiden AEGON International with a 13-15 mark for the year. The 28-year-old has struggled since his quarterfinal finish in Morocco, having fallen in the opening round in five of six tournaments.
(2) Feliciano Lopez vs. (WC) James Ward
Second seed Feliciano Lopez looks to continue his winning ways on grass, having reached the final four at Queen’s Club last week. The World No. 30 upset World No. 1 Rafael Nadal en route to a place in the semifinal. The Spaniard is 18-12 for the year, bolstered by a run to the Johannesburg crown in February. Lopez advanced to the quarterfinal in 2006, when the event was held in Nottingham (def. Bjorkman).
World No. 342 James Ward will attempt to regroup after a first-round loss to Robby Ginepri at Queen’s Club. The 23-year-old wildcard, competing in his third AEGON International, has spent the majority of the year competing on the Challenger Tour. Ward made the 2009 round of 16, where he bowed out to Frank Dancevic in straight sets.

LOL deuce
great observation!!
i'll look forward to ward vs nadal :P
seriously speaking, lopez was nowhere near his best.
also, he fluffed a lot of chances..
anyway good win for ward, as he held his serve every time, despite the obvious gap in skills..

Lopez retired. Does anybody know why?

Lopez retired due to shoulder injury, he simply overdid it against Rafa.
Ward will be able to dine on this win for ever.

OMG! Ward beats Lopez! So, Lopez beats Rafa and Ward beats Lopez sooo Ward can beat Rafa... hang on a minute, no way! Probably demonstrates we shouldn't extrapolate ANYTHING from the grass court results prior to Wimbledon.
