Roger Federer will contest his second-round match in Halle against Alejandro Falla on Thursday. Nikolay Davydenko is also looking for a place in the quarterfinals.
(1) Roger Federer vs. Alejandro Falla
Federer and Falla will be meeting in the second round of a second straight tournament when they do battle at the Gerry Weber Open on Thursday. Just two weeks ago at the French Open, Federer defeated Falla 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-4. The world No. 2 leads their head-to-head series 3-0 and all three encounters have come in Grand Slams.
While the setting is different, the outcome should be the same. Federer has not been in his best form since winning the Australian Open, but he kicked off his grass-court campaign on Tuesday with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jarkko Nieminen. Falla, not as comfortable on the slick surface, beat Noam Okun 6-4, 6-3. Federer in straight sets is the obvious pick.
Benjamin Becker vs. (2) Nikolay Davydenko
Becker and Davydenko have squared off on two previous occasions heading into this second-round Halle clash. Their first meeting came to years ago in the Wimbledon first round, with Becker pulling off a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 stunner. Davydenko got revenge last fall by rolling past Becker 6-2, 6-1 at the Paris Masters.
Davydenko has been out since mid-March with a fractured wrist, but he returned on Tuesday with a 7-6(1), 6-0 win over Simon Greul. Becker, whose big serve has always led to success for him on grass, dismissed qualifier Mikhail Ledovskikh 6-4, 6-2. The 52nd-ranked German is still just 13-16 for the season and Davydenko should be too consistent in this one.

clayking , 6/10/10 7:01 PM
clayking, even benjamin becker beating nikolay davydenko on grass is no big surprise, especially when davy is making a comeback. becker also ousted davy at wimbledon
vamosrafa , 6/10/10 7:10 PM
yes,
but even then, it was a huge upset..
and even now, it is a surprise, despite the fact becker is one of the better guys on grass.
i mean how many guys can boast of a grass title??
becker can!!
so he is good on grass..
but just lik roddick losing on clay is an upset(despite that it is expected), similarly davydenko losing on grass to someone outside top 50 is a surprise, specially since becker has been in poor form!!
clayking , 6/10/10 7:28 PM
ok u get the benefit of doubt but becker hammered davy 6-4 6-4 6-4 i their last grass court meeting so I had in mind we might get something similar tday :)
