  • Djokovic and Querrey finish up round 2

    6/9/10 5:36 AM | Cheryl Murray
Djokovic and Querrey finish up round 2 No. 2 seed Novak Djokovic will kick off his 2010 grass court season against Paolo Lorenzi.

    Novak Djokovic vs. Paolo Lorenzi

World No. 3 Novak Djokovic will put the clay season behind him and move on to grass. The Serb lost a shocker at Roland Garros in the quarterfinals to Jurgen Melzer. Djokovic’s second round opponent in London will be Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi. The Italian is a tour veteran at age 28; he is ranked No. 96 in the world, mostly on the strength of his Challenger tour results.

Djokovic’s 2010 season has been somewhat disappointing, but the Serb is still the world No. 3. He should have little difficulty getting past Lorenzi.

    Sam Querrey vs. Robby Ginepri

This is a re-match of their first round encounter at the French Open just 2 weeks ago. The No. 70 ranked Ginepri upset Querrey in 4 sets. Querrey is currently ranked 23 in the world, but he has never managed to get a win over his countryman. The surface at Queen’s should suit Querrey’s game better than the clay courts of Paris, but Ginepri is playing good tennis right now.

Querrey should still win this match, but Ginepri could make it a long day at the office.

Does anyone know how Djokovic served in his doubles match? If the serve is still MIA I will lower my expectations for grass and hope he makes up for it in the hard court season?

i always have low expectations for Djokovic's grass court season, because after 2007, although he (usually) does well at Queens/Halle, Wimbledon hasnt really been that great for him.

I wouldn't say last years performance at Halle was him "doing well" either mriiidula. But then again, maybe we expect too much from him everywhere!

I don't know % of his 1st service, but he made (only) 2 or 3 DF of 5. So, not that bad.
About grass season in general..I'm with you, girls..not expecting much from Nole, but positive surprise is most welcome. ;)

Hi Olly. Did you mean 2 or 3 DFs in 5 service games? That's pretty disgraceful actually :). In a 4-set match that would be about 6 DFs!

read his interview ... he is much more excited about the forthcoming soccer world cup than wimbledon ...

hi, stu. :)
They had 5 DF together. I'm sure that Erlich made 2 and Nole made 2.. I'm not sure about that 5th..
