  • Ferrer, Ferrero get underway at French Open

    5/25/10 6:31 AM | Ricky Dimon
Ferrer, Ferrero get underway at French Open Spaniards David Ferrer and Juan Carlos Ferrero will be in action on Tuesday at Roland Garros. An all-American clash between Robby Ginepri and Sam Querrey is also on the schedule.

(WC) David Guez vs. (9) David Ferrer

The French fans have already sat through several thrilling matches involving their countrymen, but another one is unlikely as Guez goes up against Ferrer on Tuesday. While Guez obviously needed a wild card in order to get into the main draw, Ferrer is one of the hottest players in tennis. The 11th-ranked Spaniard has reached at least the semifinals of all six of his clay-court tournaments in 2010 and he is an amazing 33-10 for the season. Count on Ferrer taking the first-ever encounter between the two players in easy straight sets.

    (16) Juan Carlos Ferrero vs. Pablo Cuevas

Ferrero and Cuevas will be meeting for the second time in their careers when they square off in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday. Cuevas won their only previous clash 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 last year on the clay courts of Valencia. At a Grand Slam, however, it should be a different story. Ferrero is a past champion at Roland Garros (2003) and there is clearly still tennis life in him at 30 years old. The 18th-ranked Spaniard dominated the February clay-court swing and although he is no longer enjoying the same kind of form, he should be able to dismiss Cuevas in four sets.

Robby Ginepri vs. (18) Sam Querrey

Ginepri and Querrey were teammates last week as the United States finished runner-up at the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf, Germany, but they will be opponents for the second time in their careers on Tuesday. Their only previous encounter came in last season's Indianapolis final, where Ginepri prevailed 6-2, 6-4. Physical problems, however, seem to have left the world No. 98 on the downside of his career. Querrey, meanwhile, is up to No. 22 in the world and he recently captured a clay-court title in Belgrade. Ginepri looked decent in two Dusseldorf losses, but Querrey in four sets is the pick.

so he is 2 sets up..
broke ceuvas service thrice in 2 sets..
so far fine enough, considering ceuvas is good on clay, and is a top 50 calibre player..
