World's number 2 Novak Djokovic meets American Mardy Fish in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open. This rematch of the 2008 final will highlight the evening session action on Saturday.
Two years ago, a rejuvenated Mardy Fish stunned the tour with a dominant run to the finals in Indian Wells. After overcoming the likes of Roger Federer, David Nalbandian, Lleyton Hewitt and Nikolay Davydenko, many thought Fish could continue his great run against the talented Serbian Novak Djokovic. The great run of Fish eventually ran out against Djokovic in the final, but not before he put a great scare in the Champion by forcing a third set.
Injuries and inconsistency have plagued Fish over the years, this coupled with the great talent of world #2 Djokovic and the American clearly has his work cut out for him. Fish will have the crowd supporting him the Saturday night match, but whether this will be enough to carry him through remains to be seen.
Djokovic is quite comfortable in Indian Wells and will look to maintain his perfect record against Fish.
Having won their three previous encounters, two of which were on hard courts, only adds to his confidence. The maturity that comes with several years in the Top 5 and knowing his style of play suits him well in this encounter stacks the odds a bit further in the Serbian’s favor.
While this match may seem like a mismatch, one unknown will be the form of Djokovic. He played great last weekend in leading Serbia over the US in Davis Cup action, but that was on clay and a continent away. To prevent this potential hiccup, Novak has seen steady action on the practice courts. Determined to compete and give his all, it would be hard to pick against the tough Serb in this or almost any contest.
Prediction:
Djokovic in straight sets.

Novak's tennis resembles Rafa's game lately; weak serve, defensive tennis with loopy fh.

PLEASE win next one in 2 sets, Nole...this is getting terrifying.

A win is win...lately he's done that a lot...but I like to see... not playing so good but still coming through... at least good for his head.
If there is no surprises road to finale is now open, OK at least SF...
AJDE NOLE... IDEMO!!!

i agree, good to win, even though you're playing not so good, but this level of game will not get him past the likes of Fed, Rafa, Murray etc...that's what I worry about.
