Tournament seeds Tommy Haas and Philipp Kohlschreiber are set to debut at the 2010 SAP Open on Tuesday. The players compete for a place in the round of 16.
(4) Tommy Haas vs. (WC) Devin Britton
Fourth seed Tommy Haas will square off against wildcard American Devin Britton Tuesday evening. The World No. 17 sees action for the first time since his third-round loss at the Australian Open in January (lost to Tsonga). The 31-year-old veteran makes his seventh trip to the SAP Open, having reached the quarterfinal or better in four attempts. The German advanced to the final eight in 2009 (lost to Roddick).
Devin Britton heads into his opener ranked outside the top 1000, still in search of his first ATP Tour-level victory. The 18-year-old made his last top-tier appearance at the 2009 US Open, where bowed out to world No. 1 Roger Federer.
(6) Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. Rajeev Ram
Sixth seed Philipp Kohlschreiber takes on Rajeev Ram in their first career-meeting late Tuesday afternoon. The 29th-ranked German has compiled a 5-2 season mark, bolstered by a semifinal finish in Auckland (lost to Clement). The 26-year-old returns to hard-court competition after falling to Rafael Nadal in Melbourne. Kohlschreiber last played the SAP Open in 2005, where he crashed out in the first round to Tomas Zib.
Rajeev Ram kicks off his 2010 SAP Open campaign with a 2-3 record. The American made the quarters in Johannesburg last week, succumbing to eventual champion Feliciano Lopez. Prior to his success in South Africa, the 25-year-old had failed to pass through the opening round in three consecutive tournaments. Tuesday afternoon signals Ram’s first showing in San Jose.
