Fate seems to be drawing Juan Martin Del Potro and David Nalbandian together at the moment. After last week's clash, they face each other again for a place in the Basel final.
After the hype, the actual match in Madrid last week was quite disappointing. Everyone was hoping for something a little special given how many points Nalbandian had to defend, but he just looked very flat through the entire match and things never really got going once he was broken in the opening games of both sets.
Looking to keep team bonding at a high ahead of the Davis Cup final, Nalbandian once again brushed aside any suggestions of a rivalry and insisted there will be no feelings of looking to avenge his loss in Madrid. He did admit that he's looking forward to the challenge of taking on one of the top-form players in world tennis right now on one of his favorite indoor surfaces.
Del Potro said he felt he will need to find his best tennis again if he's to make it two straight wins over Nalbandian. “It's tough to play a friend and I have to be ready, I was able to beat him last week but every match is different.”
Having played so many matches over the past few months he admitted the effects of a long season are starting to get to him. “My mind is good,” he said. “I want to keep winning but my physique starts to feel tired. My tennis is going numb.”
Prediction: A better match than in Madrid but same result with Del Potro winning in two close sets.
