Andy Roddick, the 2005 Lyon champion, will look to have another go at a Lyon title, starting against Nicolas Mahut.
Andy Roddick has definitely had a solid season, although his Slam results have been wretched.
Roddick beat Mahut in his 2005 run to the title in Lyon. He has a 3-0 record over the French net-rusher, but none of them blowouts. The last two both went three sets.
Mahut has had a pretty bad year in 2008, and hasn't shown anything exceptional all year. He plays a serve-and-volley game that almost took out Roddick at Queen's last year. On this indoor surface, Mahut will have a shot, but a very slim one. He will have to serve up over 70% and be as aggressive as he possibly can all match.
Roddick will try to impose his will over the Frenchman in this match, and, depending on Mahut's response, this match could be over quickly. If Mahut sits back at the baseline and lets Roddick dictate play, this match will be done and dusted in quick fashion. However, should Mahut survive the early onslaught, he can take this match. A great serving day and a great volleying day will see Mahut through. Anything less will be a Roddick victory.

Did you know that... Thomas Johansson did not have to face any of the top-10 players when he won the Australian Open in 2002.
