Roger Federer will take on American Bobby Reynolds in first round-action at his home tournament in Basel, Switzerland.
Roger Federer comes into Basel off a bit of a disappointing semifinal loss to world number four Andy Murray in Madrid, Spain just a few days ago, though he enters the Davidoff Swiss Indoors in fairly good form.
For his own standards, Federer has had a sub-par year in 2008. Through September, the Swiss had won just two titles, both in optional events (Halle and Estoril). A huge win at the US Open over Murray salvaged the season for the world number two.
He should have little trouble with Bobby Reynolds. Reynolds is ranked 86th in the world and he took a brutal beating from David Nalbandian in Stockholm, losing 6-1, 6-1. The American spends about half of the year competing at Challenger events to keep his ranking up.
He simply does not have enough weapons in his shot arsenal to keep up with Federer. Federer’s forehand and serve will neutralize any resistance his opponent might bring. Federer won’t break a sweat in this one. The No. 1 seed will advance in two easy sets.
