Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic will take on Davis Cup teammate Viktor Troicki at the Kremlin Cup on Wednesday.
Janko Tipsarevic comes into the Kremlin Cup off a quarterfinal result in Metz last week. The Serb had a bit of a strange year in 2008. He reached the round of 16 at Wimbledon, upsetting Andy Roddick in the second round before going down to Rainer Schuettler of Germany. He then went on to bomb out of the US Open in the first round to unseeded Sam Warburg.
Viktor Troicki is having a good summer and fall hardcourt season. He reached the final in Washington in August, and like his opponent, he comes into Moscow on the strength of a quarterfinal result. Troicki’s came in Tokyo.
The two men have never played each other in an ATP tournament. Though Tipsarevic is ranked higher (41 to Troicki’s 60), Troicki has had the better form while Tipsarevic has essentially been struggling for months now. A minor upset just may be in the making. Troicki for the win.
