Carlos Moya is still waiting for a title win in 2008. He tries for that on Sunday against 17th-ranked Gilles Simon of France.
Carlos Moya’s year has been unpredictable. His ranking has plummeted to 61 in the world. His Grand Slam results include two first-round exits (at the Australian Open and Roland Garros) and one second round exit (US Open). His best result came back in February when he reached the final in Costa Do Sauipe. He also had two Masters Series quarterfinals in Hamburg and Cincinnati.
Gilles Simon is having the best year of his career. He racked two titles in Casablanca and Indianapolis and had a big win over Roger Federer in Toronto, where he eventually advanced to the semifinals. He is ranked 17th in the world.
Simon is the favorite coming into the final, but his form in his semifinal against Jose Acasuso was not impressive. Moya looked much better against Gasquet. If their form carries through, there could very well be an upset with Moya thrashing Simon from the baseline. Moya in three.
