Spanish veteran Carlos Moya is into his second quarterfinal of the summer at the BCR Open Romania. He will take on countryman Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Carlos Moya’s year can be summed up by one statistic - his win and loss record. He is 20-19 for the year; this includes a final in Costa Do Sauipe, a semifinal in Chennai and two Masters-Series quarterfinals (one as recent as Cincinnati in August). Otherwise his year has been a series of first and second round defeats. He was ousted in the second round of the US Open by Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. His ranking has dropped to 61 in the world.
His opponent Garcia-Lopez is ranked just a few spots higher at 64. He made the semifinal in San Jose and Gstaad, but his season lacks the deep runs in Masters events that Moya has had. When Moya is playing well, he can stay with almost anyone on the tour. He completely outplayed eventual chamion Andy Murray for the first set and a half in Cincinnati before succumbing to the intense on-court heat. He should have enough in the tank to get past Garcia-Lopez. Moya in straight sets.
