  • Roddick-Gonzalez in a 4th round showdown

    9/2/08 7:20 AM | Jonathan Morgan
     - Fans lucky enough to have a ticket to the Tuesday night session will be treated to a fantastic affair of power with Andy Roddick and Fernando Gonzalez.

Andy Roddick has tried to recover from a mediocre summer here in New York. He has played well in getting to the 4th round here, but this will be his biggest test.

Fernando Gonzalez won the silver medal in Beijing and his flying forehand and all-out aggresion game have worked thus far. Roddick has a giant serve and the forehand to back it up. Gonzalez has a nice serve but nothing close to Roddick's. His forehand, however, is lethal. He can crack winners from literally anywhere on the court.

The key component in this matchup is the Roddick serve vs. the Gonzalez return. Fernando has not been able to return the American's serve very well in their history. The most recent match was last November in Shanghai where Roddick easily sent Gonzalez packing. Andy leads the overall head to head 7-3.

Roddick will head into this match as the favorite and justly so. But Gonzalez is far from having no chance in this one. Fernando is Roddick's toughest test thus far and vice versa. The bottom line here is that this match will be extremely entertaining to the masses.
