23rd seed Igor Andreev may be in danger today against former Wimbledon junior champion Jeremy Chardy who's explosive power has seen him break onto the ATP tour for the first time this season
Currently ranked 80, Chardy made his big move at Roland Garros where home support spurred him on to a 4th round appearance, seeing off dark horse David Nalbandian along the way from 2 sets to love down. He claimed the Graz challenger title just a few weeks ago and took advantage of a kind opening draw here taking out Portugal's Frederico Gil for the 2nd slam in succession 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3
Chardy's biggest weapon is the serve which was clocked at 140mph+ at Wimbledon a few years ago, and like most of the French players he's comfortable at the net
Andreev's happiest on the clay, the slow, high bounce enabling him to take huge swings at that forehand, one of the biggest on tour. He's made 2 ATP finals on the dirt this summer but his hard court results have started to pick up aswell taking him to a new ranking high of 23. He made the last 16 of both masters series and has been unlucky enough to run into Nadal early on in several events
He came through a potential banana skin match with Marc Gicquel 7-6, 6-4, 6-4, 19 aces keeping the Frenchman's chances few and far between
Verdict: Andreev to progress but Chardy to nick a set
Roger Federer is also in action today, second on Arthur Ashe against Thiamo Alves who struggled with cramp in a long 5 setter 2 days ago

Did you know that... Sweden won all grand Slam titles in 1988. Stefan Edberg became the Wimbledon champion and Mats Wilander was victorious in the other three.
