In a rematch of their round of 16 match earlier this year in Miami, Guillermo Canas will take on Russian Igor Andreev.
In the most intriguing of the quarterfinal match-ups in Umag, Argentine Guillermo Canas will take on the Russian clay-courter Igor Andreev.
Guillermo Canas is not having a good season. He is ranked 55 in the world, down from 13 in the world where he sat in February of this year. Igor Andreev had something of a hand in his fall. In 2007, Canas made the final in Miami, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in three. This year, Andreev took out the Argentine at that same tournament in the round of 16. Canas will undoubtedly want some revenge.
Andreev comes into Umag brimming with confidence. He made his first ATP final of the year in Gstaad just last week. Andreev has had a good, if not fantastic season in 2008. He made the quarterfinals in both Miami and Monte Carlo. He has not fared as well at the Slams, but his current ranking of 30 is pretty much standard for the Russian.
Canas had the more punishing second round match. If he is still feeling the effects of his three set match against Boris Pashanski, Andreev has an excellent chance to get into the semis. Andreev in three.
