  • Wimbledon: Rafael Nadal vs. Nicolas Kiefer

    6/28/08 5:19 AM | Cheryl Murray
     - German veteran Nicolas Kiefer will try his hand at taking out Rafael Nadal on Saturday in round three action.

Rafael Nadal got through a tight second round match against Ernests Gulbis in the second round. Gulbis got the first set off the Spaniard before Nadal took control of the match. Gulbis played quite a good match and Nadal was forced to play well to beat him. Given the level the Spaniard displayed at Wimbledon so far, he is a legitimate contender for the title.

Trying to stop him will be Germany's Nicolas Kiefer. Kiefer had a deep run at Halle, the Wimbledon tune up event. He got to the semi-finals before losing in two to Roger Federer. Kiefer defeat Julien Benneteau and Martin Vassallo Arguello on his way to the third round.

Nadal has beaten Kiefer twice in 2008 already. He had an easy straight set win over the German in Miami and another straight set win in Davis Cup play. Unless something unexpected happens with Nadal's form, Kiefer will not have the tools to beat Nadal on his second best surface. Nadal moves better, and is more consistent. If his forehand is working as it has all tournament long, he should win comfortably.
