It's not the final many people anticipated at the start of the week but the Ordina Open does tend to throw up some surprise results. Who would have thought Peter Wessels would have been in the final last year and 12 months on where is he now ?
Neither of these two are 1 tournament wonders but Gicquel has previously reserved most of his success for the indoor season. He's twice been runner-up in Lyon, to Gasquet and then Grosjean in 2006 and 2007.
He leads Ferrer 2-0 on the head-to-heads but the last of those matches was nearly 2 years ago (a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win for Gicquel in Metz) and both were on fast indoor courts.
Both men have achieved their main goal this week, extra matches on the grass. Ferrer will be looking to make it 2 titles this year, after his success in Valencia, his 6th career title. If he does win on Saturday then it will mean he only needs an indoor title to complete his tally of successes on all surfaces
Gicquel has had the slightly tougher route to the final, overcoming Gasquet 7-5, 7-6 in round 2 and then that tricky semi-final against Canas. That will have prepared him well for Ferrer who is a little more aggressive but just as quick and as good a returner.
Prediction: Ferrer to claim his 7th title in 3 sets
