New talent Marin Cilic will take on Sweden's Thomas Johansson for a berth in the semi-finals
Swedish player Thomas Johansson got the benefit of a walk-over when his second round opponent Dmitry Tursunov was ejected from the tournament. Tursunov was playing in a doubles match when he had a dispute over a line call. He stormed off the court in a huff. Tournament organizers were not pleased with his behavior; they ejected him from the tournament completely including for singles.
Johansson is a tour veteran. His ranking has slipped from a 2002 career-high 7 to 68 in the world. He has struggled in 2008 - a win over David Ferrer in Miami is easily the highlight of his year. His best result came in a Challenger event in East London back in February. He lost to Ivan Ljubicic in the semi-finals.
His opponent, the up-and-comer Marin Cilic has had an inconsistent year. He started off the year strong with a semi-final showing in Chennai followed by an appearance in the round of 16 at the Australian Open. Since then, he has struggled a bit. Most recently, he was knocked out of Queen's Club in the second round by Paul-Henri Mathieu.
Cilic has the better overall form coming into Nottingham and should be able to dispatch of Johansson. CIlic in two.
