In this semi-final blockbuster showdown, world number three Novak Djokovic will take on the unpredictable David Nalbandian in what is sure to be a crowd pleasing battle.
Novak Djokovic is at the top of his game right now. For the past month, he has been knocking on the door of Rafael Nadal, coming within a match win in both Hamburg and Roland Garros of snagging the number two spot from the Spaniard. He won the Australian Open in January and made the semi-finals at Roland Garros.
David Nalbandian has just one title for the year so far, in Buenos Aires. Well known for his inconsistency as much as his genius, his strange loses have historically outweighed his spectacular wins. As evidence, he recently lost in the second round of Roland Garros to Jeremy Chardy, a little-known French player. This does not, however, mean that Nalbandian has no chance in this match.
The last time the two met, in Madrid in 2007, Nalbandian hit Djokovic off the court in straight sets. He defeated Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal on his way to the title as well. He is capable of beating anyone when he is playing his best. The problem is that his best does not occur with any kind of reliable frequency.
Both men played impressively in their quarter-final mathes. Nalbandian had to play well to get past an in-form Richard Gasquet in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) ). Djokovic, for his part, had a unexpectedly easy win over four-time Queens Club champion Lleyton Hewitt 6-2, 6-2.
If Nalbandian plays to the high level that he has displayed in big matches before, he could win easily. But he probably won't. The more consistent player is the one to bet on when the chips are down, and that player is Novak Djokovic. Djokovic in three.

I want Nalby to win so he won't have to cop it from the media. I wish sometimes journalists would stop judging him - yes, we know he is unpredictable, but players are humans too.

Did you know that... Pete Sampras has been ranked number 1 during the longest period of time, 286 weeks.
