Kiefer has always given Roger trouble on grass, and he hopes to buck the 57 match win streak Federer has going on grass.
Kiefer has always been just a bit of a thorn in Federer's side, especially on grass. With the exception of the two most recent matches, most are hard-fought and close. Kiefer was the last player to beat Federer in Halle, back in 2002, and also the only player to take a set from Federer in his 2005 Wimbledon run.
Kiefer plays a game that is perfect for grass. A strong forehand, great serve, solid volleys and a keen court sense. The German home crowd also doesn't hurt. He will try to do what Federer does, in dictating points with the forehand before eventually moving in and finishing at net.
Kiefer can take this, but he has to outsmart Federer. Mix up serves, play as aggresive as possible, and take balls early. But he must mix it up to keep Federer off guard. Fed's movement is not what it was a few years ago, so Kiefer can certainly exploit that with deep landing angled shots.
Federer should be able to counter whatever Kiefer is trying to do and pay it back, however. He did just that in his last few outing vs. the German and will look to do it here as well.

Did you know that... Boris Becker never won an ATP-title on clay.
