Casablanca must be one of the year’s highlights for French players. They’ve dominated the field these last two years with Paul-Henri Mathieu taking the title in 2007 and now a French winner guaranteed this year
It’s a milestone for Benneteau - first ATP singles final ! He’s made 5 doubles finals, winning 3 but never achieved it before on the singles court. It’s Simon’s 4th final, he made real inroads up the rankings last year with titles in Marseille and Bucharest and this will send him back into the top 30.
These two have played twice before, in slightly contrasting settings. Simon took it 6-4, 6-3 in the Sunrise super challenger 3 years ago but Benneteau gained revenge on the fast indoor courts of Lyon last autumn 7-5, 6-4.
Both players have had some tight matches on the way to the final not to mention a few large slices of luck. Simon was of course very fortunate not to even need to strike a ball against Tsonga in the semis while for Benneteau Oscar Hernandez was always struggling with injury during their quarter-final. After coming through qualifying Simon had two very tough matches to start off with, having to grind down Florent Serra and Boris Pashanski.
Prediction: Simon in 2

Did you know that... Arnaud Clement and Fabrice Santoro fought during 6 hours and 33 minutes in the longest match ever played, in French Open 2004.
