It’s going to be a first Barcelona final for one of these players, both have fallen in the last 4 over the past 2 years
Ferrer and Wawrinka are 2-2 on the head-to-heads, the last 2 matches coming on clay in 2006. Wawrinka won 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in Barcelona before Ferrer got revenge 2 months later in Stuttgart; 6-3, 6-4.
Wawrinka has sparkled at times this week but Ferrer will be the toughest test so far, unlikely to self-destruct like Nalbandian did and to beat him Wawrinka will need to match the Spaniard’s intensity throughout the match. He can’t afford the same fluctuations in form as against Montanes yesterday
Wawrinka has served well so far and he’ll need to do the same against a player Roger Federer labelled as “the best returner in tennis at the moment” last November. He uses the kick serve particularly effectively often coming in behind it for the surprise factor.
Looking ahead to the match Ferrer was wary of the Swiss’ shotmaking ability “The semifinal with Wawrinka is going to be tough, he's beaten me twice. I'll impose my game from the beginning and go for angles, he's a dangerous player when in his comfort zone so I'l try to move him around.“
I’m predicting a 3 set Ferrer win, the home crowd could give him the edge today

Did you know that... James Blake suffered from severe scoliosis as a teenager. He had to wear a back brace for 18 hours of the day because of it.
