Roger Federer looks to make his first final of the year. He will take on Germany's Denis Gremelmayr.
The semi-final match between Roger Federer and Denis Gremelmayr is about as lopsided as semi-finals get. Federer is the world number one, winner of 12 grand slams and countless other events. He wears special outfits made for him by his clothing sponsor and is frequently mentioned in discussions of exactly who is the Greatest of all Time (GOAT). His opponent is ranked number 104 in the world and has never won an ATP tour title.
The two men have met on one occasion in Bangkok in 2005, a match which Federer won easily. Prior to Estoril, Germany's Gremelmayr had a 3-5 record for the year. He earns many of his ranking points from the Challenger circuit. Federer has had a disappointing year by his standards. No titles as of yet, no finals and even a first round exit in Dubai to Andy Murray have marked 2008. While all of that is true for Federer, there is little doubt that he will be reaching his first final on Sunday. Gremelmayr has no weapons with which to hurt Federer. Barring an unforeseen illness or injury, Federer will should ease through Saturday's match with minimal fuss.
