  • Houston Semifinal: James Blake vs. Oscar Hernandez

    4/19/08 7:06 PM | Jonathan Morgan
     - Houson's semifinal day will pit Oscar Hernandez vs. James Blake in a fine match players that have been playing some fine tennis this week.

These two have met once before, in October 2007 in Basel in an indoor event. Blake won in straights easily, but that was to be expected, all things considered.

This match on clay will be a completely different type than that indoor match. Hernandez is more comfortable on clay than Blake is, but this week has been his only solid week all year. Blake, on the other hand, has played well all year and beat out a tough opponent on clay in Calleri in the previous round.

James will look to work the points and fire away with his forehand whenever possible. He has looked more patient on clay this week than he does on hardcourts, but that really isn't saying too much. Hernandez will look to be consistently moving forward, pounding away at the baseline when needed and coming in to finish points at the net at every opportunity. Hernandez's serving stats for the Fish match were insane for the first 3/4ths of the match and he will need to do more of that to have a shot against Blake.
