Ferrer looks to emulate his run at this tournament in 2005 when he reached the final. At the time he was just another little known Spanish grinder but it proved to be the kickstart for big things.
Robredo has no track record at this tournament, his main Spanish successes have come in Barcelona where he won the title in 2004.
It’s somewhat surprising that these two have only played twice before. Robredo won 7-6, 6-4 in the quarters of Hamburg 2006, on the way to his first masters series title but Ferrer gained crushing revenge in the 2007 Auckland final; 6-4, 6-2.
This could be a long match with both players excellent movers and retrievers. Ferrer is the harder hitter, he and Robredo like to upload on the off forehand but Ferrer’s is the heavier shot.
Ferrer is the big favourite for this in my opinion, Robredo plays a very similar game but with not quite as much pace or speed. Having enjoyed his best week of the year to date by reaching the semis, there will be little pressure on Robredo and he can really just come out swinging but in order to really trouble Ferrer, he may have to play out of his comfort zone tactically

Did you know that... Rainer Schuettler defeated Andreas Seppi in Kitzbühel 2004 after having saved 10 match points.
