A heavyweight battle here of indoor mavericks who have looked very impressive the past 2 weeks. The winner of this one will have a serious advantage in the Sunday final.
Both players are coming off of finals appearances in the previous week on an indoor court. Söderling has made the semis without being broken even once and only facing 2 break points in his first 3 matches. Stepanek has made the semis in much the same way save for his abysmal 2nd round match against Serra.
Söderling will look to hammer his serve and powerful groundstrokes off both wings. He will try to attack the Stepanek forehand, the weaker of the two wings. Stepanek is going to do his usual big serve and mostly volley game on this indoor court. Both players have fantastic records indoors and this match-up should be a great one. A break of service is basically a death sentence in a set as breaks will be rare.
They've played 3 times before, with Söderling leading 2-1. They played in the final of the 2005 Milan event indoors with Söderling prevailing 6-3, 6-7(2), 7-6(5). I would not be surprised to see a similar scoreline here with Söderling advancing to his 2nd straight final.

Did you know that... Fabrice Santoro and Arnaud Clement fought during 6 hours and 33 minutes in the longest match ever played, in French Open 2004.
