It is a replay of last week's quarterfinal match in Buenos Aires. Potito Starace very nearly picked off top-seeded David Nalbandian at his home tournament.
Nalbandian eventually won the match 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 and went on to win the title. Starace will be looking to exact revenge for that loss, and an admittedly tired David Nalbandian may make a good candidate.
Starace and Nalbandian both advanced to the quarters on straight set wins in their first and second round matches, but as Nalbandian played for the full week in Buenos Aires, he will be the less fresh of the two. Starace, ranked 36 in the world, has only played two tournaments this year. The first in Costa Do Sauipe, where he was dispatched in the first round by Czech player Ivo Minar, and last weeks quarterfinal loss to Nalbandian. His game has found it's groove now, however and an upset would not be surprising.
If the Italian allows Nalbandian to stand in one spot and crush backhand winners all day, as his first and second round opponents did, he will lose. If, however, he moves the Argentine around and takes his legs out, he stands a very good chance of making his first semi of the year. Starace in 3.
