Fourth seed David Ferrer is through to the last eight after rallying to dismiss Croatia's Ivan Dodig. The 31-year-old veteran struck 53 winners through two hours and 47 minutes of play.

"I'm trying to play more aggressive," Ferrer said. "I need to serve better than other courts, obviously when I am playing the second shot. Every match I am playing better with my game. I am confident."

Ferrer ended the match with five of 15 break points converted.

    (8) Juan Martin Del Potro def. (23) Andreas Seppi 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-3

Eighth seed Juan Martin Del Potro made his first Wimbledon quarterfinal with a straight-sets upending of 23rd seed Andreas Seppi. The 24-year-old Argentine passed through the 142-minute match without losing serve.

“I played really well, but in the end I was so nervous I couldn’t close the match out easily,” Del Potro confessed. “In the third set, I missed easy forehands because of nerves. I think I played really well the last two points of the match.

“I’m so happy to be in the quarterfinals for the first time here in Wimbledon. I’m improving playing on grass; I like it a lot," Del Potro said. “It’s going to be difficult against Ferrer, but I’m very excited to play him. He's playing fantastic this season; he will be No. 3 in the world. I think he's the favorite, but I like to play this match on the grass. If my knee is OK, I think it will be a good match.”
