Tsonga retires, Monaco advances Latvia's Ernests Gulbis is through to the third round after 6th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired with a knee injury. Gulbis is joined by 22nd seed Juan Monaco, who rallied to defeat American Rajeev Ram in four sets.

    Ernests Gulbis def. (6) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 (retired)

World No. 39 Ernests Gulbis passed into the round of 32 after World No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga retired with injury. The 24-year-old Latvian tallied 12 aces and 45 winners when the Frenchman called it a day at the 120-minute mark.

"It's exciting,” Gulbis commented. “It's my first time in the third round at Wimbledon. I beat (Verdasco) already this season. It's good. I'm going step by step."

"I have a little problem with my tendon in my knee," Tsonga explained. "I've had this since a couple of days now. I know when it's getting worse and worse like this that it's not really good for me to play on because I know I will do more damage. I tried, but no chance for me to beat a guy like this without my legs."

Gulbis is through to take on Spain's Fernando Verdasco in the next round.

    (22) Juan Monaco def. Rajeev Ram 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2

Twenty-second seed Juan Monaco advanced to the third round after rallying to upend American Rajeev Ram. The veteran Argentine converted five of 14 break points through 136 minutes of play. Monaco completed the second-round match with 53 winners and 7 aces.

He is slated to face France's Kenny De Schepper in the round of 32.

C'mon Ernie, keep your head together! No reason you can't make at least the QF now.

I picked him to reach the final but knowing how unpredictable he is, i am keeping my fingers crossed.
