  • Djokovic advances in routine win over Mayer

    6/26/13 5:08 AM | Cheryl Murray
Djokovic advances in routine win over Mayer World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was efficient in his first round victory over Germany's Florian Mayer.

Serbia's Novak Djokovic began his 2013 grass season in fine form, with a straight-set victory over Florian Mayer 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.

Mayer is a good grass court player and he played well enough on Tuesday to make Djokovic work for his victory.

The Serb was particularly good on his second serve, winning a whopping 81% of his second serve points.

Mayer actually played well on the break points. Djokovic earned himself 11 break points for the match, but Mayer fought off all but 3 of them. Unfortunately for the German, Djokovic secured a break in each set to take the straight set victory.

The Serb will take on American Bobby Reynolds in the second round.
