Lopez captures Eastbourne title Spain's Feliciano Lopez captured his third ATP World Tour title after holding off France's Gilles Simon in three sets. The veteran completed the championship-winning run with a 6-0 effort in the deciding set.

World No. 39 Feliciano Lopez won his first ATP World Tour title since 2010, having held on to defeat second seed Gilles Simon on Saturday. The Spanish veteran tallied 16 aces en route to a 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-0 victory.

After splitting the first two sets, Lopez raced to a 5-0 advantage in the deciding set. The 31-year-old ended the championship final with fourteen of 15 service games held. Simon, who sought his 11th career ATP World Tour title, faced 21 break points during the match.

Lopez is a title winner for the first time since defeating France's Stephane Robert in Johannesburg.

Well done to Feli!
To those who say Spaniards are only good in the dirt... well.... what now? Oh, let me guess.. Eastborne is a petty tournament .... blabla

Feli always has that big serve. When he's on there is no reason why he can't play well on grass. So I am not that surprised about this result. I am just happy to see him win a title this year.

That propaganda about Spaniards only being good on the dirt is said by those who don't know any better.

Good for Feli. His first round opponent at Wimbly is Simon so I hope he can REPEAT!

Wind condition at Eastbourne was awful yet the match was entertaining and close except for the 3rd set. Looking forward to their wimby 1st round match.

I got to see the replay on the tennis channel today and it was windy as anything during the match. At one point in the second set, Feli was called for a time violation and he got into an argument with the chair umpire because of the insane windy conditions. I heard the umpire say something to the effect that - we can't wait all the time. Feli was frustrated to say the least.

I think both guys did well in these conditions.

Feli was very impressive at Eastbourne, I hope he is not too tired for Wimbledon.
