Wawrinka, Mahut advance to 's-Hertogenbosch semis Stanislas Wawrinka gets past Jeremy Chardy in straight sets on Thursday in 's-Hertogenbosch. Wawrinka is joined in the semifinals by qualifier Nicolas Mahut, who ended Evgeny Donskoy's run.

    (2) Stanislas Wawrinka d. (5) Jeremy Chardy 6-4, 7-6(3)

Wawrinka struck seven aces without double-faulting as he defeated Chardy in one hour and 15 minutes during quarterfinal action at the Topshelf Open on Thursday. Chardy had opportunities in each of the two sets, but could not come through in the crucial moments. It started with the No. 5 seed serving to stay in the opener at 4-5. The first break of the afternoon came in the 10th game when Chardy double-faulted on set point.

The Frenchman recovered impressively early in the second and soon found himself serving to force a third set at 5-4. Wawrinka, though, earned another critical break before playing his way into a tiebreaker. With momentum in hand, the 10th-ranked Swiss cruised through the decider seven points to two. Next up for Wawrinka is Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Jan Hernych.

    (Q) Nicolas Mahut d. Evgeny Donskoy 6-3, 7-6(1)

Mahut booked a spot in his first ATP semifinal since 2007 by dismissing Donskoy in one hour and 41 minutes on Thursday. The 31-year-old Frenchman saved all four of the break points he faced to hold all 11 of his service games. He finished with eight aces and won 82 percent of his first-serve points.

Donskoy had done well to upset third-seeded John Isner en route to the last eight and he was also competitive the whole way in this one. The 77th-ranked Russian dropped serve once in the opening set before fighting off all four of his opponent's break chances in the second. In crunch time, however, Donskoy cracked. Mahut dominated the clinching tiebreaker seven points to one, thus ensuring an all-unseeded semifinal showdown against Xavier Malisse.
