• Malisse, Mahut advance to 's-Hertogenbosch quarters

Malisse, Mahut advance to 's-Hertogenbosch quarters Xavier Malisse and Nicolas Mahut are through to the last eight in 's-Hertogenbosch after earning victories on Wednesday. Malisse overcomes Yen-Hsun Lu while Mahut downs Andrey Kuznetsov.

    Xavier Malisse d. Yen-Hsun Lu 3-6, 6-1, 6-4

Malisse fired 12 aces and broke serve five times as he beat Lu in one hour and 46 minutes to book a spot in the Topshelf Open quarterfinals on Wednesday. The veteran Belgian, who ousted No. 1 seed David Ferrer in the first round, blasted seven aces in the opening set but he dropped serve once and that was one too many times because he failed to convert his only break chance.

The rest of the way, however, it was mostly all Malisse. Lu won a horrendous three of 15 second-serve points in set two and dropped all three of his service games. Chinese Taipei's top player recovered to go up by an early break in the third, but it quickly fell apart all over again. Malisse broke twice in succession then closed out the proceedings with victory on his racket at 5-4. Next up for the world No. 60 is Roberto Bautista Agut, a straight-set winner over Carlos Berlocq.

    (Q) Nicolas Mahut d. Andrey Kuznetsov 6-2, 6-4

Mahut continued his impressive week in 's-Hertogenbosch by disposing of Kuznetsov in one hour and 20 minutes during second-round action on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Frenchman, who had to qualify just to get into the main draw, struck six aces and held all nine of his service games while holding both of the break points he faced.

Kuznetsov, who spends most of his time on clay even if it means dropping down to the Challenger level, was thoroughly outclassed from start to finish by a much more experienced grass-court player. The 77th-ranked Russian donated serve twice in the opener, failing to save any of the break points he faced. He fought off three of four break points in the second, but he could not capitalize on the one chance he earned against the Mahut serve. The world No. 240 will battle Evgeny Donskoy for a place in the semifinals.
