  • Djokovic destroys Dimitrov at Roland Garros

    6/1/13 11:43 PM | Ricky Dimon
Djokovic destroys Dimitrov at Roland Garros Novak Djokovic gets the job done before nightfall by racing past Grigor Dimitrov in the third round of the French Open on Saturday. Djokovic avenges a recent Madrid loss while earning a spot in the last 16 of the only Grand Slam he has never won.

Novak Djokovic crushed Grigor Dimitrov 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 to reach the fourth round of the French Open on Saturday afternoon. Djokovic, who had lost to Dimitrov in a three-hour marathon at the recent Madrid Masters, needed only one hour and 44 minutes to advance.

The top-ranked Serb broke serve in the opening game of the match and never looked back. He added one more break in the first set before facing a break point for the first time at 5-2. Djokovic saved it to finish off the opener with another service hold.

Dimitrov was similarly hopeless in set two. The 28th-ranked Bulgarian again dropped serve twice and he won a horrendous two total points in four return games. Dimitrov finally earned a scalp of the Djokovic serve in the third, but at that point he was already down a break. Djokovic briefly saw a trainer for a shoulder issue at 4-3 in the third, but he came right back out and won the next two games to clinch victory in style.

The 2012 runner-up is now four wins away from what would be his first triumph at Roland Garros and a completion to the career Grand Slam. Next up for Djokovic is Philipp Kohlschreiber, a straight-set winner over Victor Hanescu.

No-1-le! Totally schooled GD! I hope Dimitrov keeps up the goodwork and realises his potential before it is too late. Kudos to Gasquet/Tsonga too. Keeping the french hopes alive.

RT @christophclarey: "Spoke with Djokovic's coach Marian Vajda and he said last time Djokovic saw Jelena Gencic she asked him to bring home #FrenchOpen trophy"

There should be a music score to go with Novak's French Open trophy quest, seriously. It is beginning to have a movie script feel to it. You know how the score starts slowly and the notes rise with the tension as the climax approaches.......

Let's hope it is more of a 'Mournful Violin' soundtrack come the SF.

At least he's got a ready-made excuse in his back pocket now should he need it.

When I saw Dimi play Pouille I wasn't too impressed. He is the kind of player that cannot produce his best every now and again but not consistently.
