Ferrer eases into third round Fourth seed David Ferrer advanced to the third round at the French Open, having ousted fellow Spaniard Albert Montanes in straight sets. He is through to take on countryman Feliciano Lopez in the next round.

World No. 5 David Ferrer is through to the round of 32 after defeating compatriot Albert Montanes in straight sets. The 31-year-old veteran converted eight of 15 break points en route to a 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 victory.

"I'm very, very satisfied, because I think I played very good tennis," Ferrer explained. "It's going to be a tough match (against Lopez). (Feliciano) is a player who serves really powerfully. It's not easy, not comfortable. I'll have to be careful."

Ferrer completed the 101-minute match with three aces and 29 winners. Lopez rallied to a four-set victory over Portugal's Joao Sousa.

Great match David, 29 winners is very respectable for a match in which he wasn't tested. Now, another duel against spaniards, have the FR also done this un purpose I wonder :)

I can see Ferrer winning french this year. The Top 3 have been on shaky form and could be knocked out by an inspired big hitter. Yes the top 3 have a crazy record against ferrer, but none of them have been as weak as what we've seen so far. Nadal might have had an incredible comeback, but he has not been exceptional - but rather consistent.

@ DMW,

You may be right in terms of their current form but they will definitely improve as the tourney goes on, esp Rafa!!! Its good that Rafa is able to get chances to get match tough with his early round line up.

Vamos Champ!!!
