  • Murray starts to test his back on grass

    5/28/13 10:53 PM | Johan Lindahl
Murray starts to test his back on grass Andy Murray has been testing his injured back with light hitting on grass as the Scot sits out the French Open.

London's Daily Mail reported that the Scot was seen having a quiet hit on grass at the weekend at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton, just over a week since he quit the Rome event and later withdrew from Paris.

The ATP ace also took a bit of a surprise interest in the three-hour Venus Williams first-round, opening-day loss in Paris, with Murray tweeting various thoughts on the encounter to his 1.4 million Twitter fans.

The immediate Murray goal is now obviously Wimbledon, with a preliminary stop at Queen's Club in a fortnight. "That (Wimbledon) is the plan," Murray told ESPN. "The grass is a bit easier on my back than the clay and I am hoping that Wimbledon is going to be fine. I am going to try to get myself ready to play at Queen's but I just have to wait and see."

Murray said that his days have been devoted to treatment in London for up to three hours at a time. "I want to make sure the back is as good as possible for the grass-court stretch. I still have a process I am going through to build up my training to see if I have any setbacks or not when I start to push a little bit more.

"It's very easy standing in the middle of the court having a controlled practice session for 30 minutes, it's another thing playing for four hours on a clay court or even a grass court when you are playing against the best players in the world. I have a long way to go before I am 100 per cent."
